Professor Laura Hosman: SolarSPELL
Thursday, October 22, Kennedy Library, 111H, 11:00-noon
Professor Hosman (Political Science, STS) will introduce and demonstrate her project SolarSPELL, a Solar Powered Educational Learning Library designed to simulate an online experience for students and teachers at rural, remote schools with no electricity or internet connectivity. The project was created in collaboration with Cal Poly students, and the library's content is entirely open access.

Why That Textbook Costs $200 and What You Can Do
Friday, October 23, Kennedy Library, 111H, 11:00-noon
The officers of the Cal Poly Free Culture Club will lead a discussion on the status of textbooks in higher education. They will present their findings on what has led to the exorbitant pricing today and offer their perspective on how we can use open access to make education more accessible to students. For more information on the Free Culture Club, visit fb.com/CPFreeCulture.
