There is a need to take forward the Open Access movement in India and especially the scientists/scholars working in the institutions in National Agricultural Research System (NARS) should be made aware of what is Open Access (OA) and what are its benefits and how to make their research literature as OA literature.
The efforts on making OA to literature in NARS is at very minimal. Under various projects, now NARS is learning what is OA however it is contained among the principal research investigators of those projects. Under National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP), under component 1, OA initiatives are taken up viz., e-Granth, OpenAgri, Eprints@IARI. However, the Eprints@CMFRI is sloely because of the efforts of librarians.
It is requested that all those from NARS (India) who are gathering here on this site to celebrate Open Access Week, to conduct at least one-hour activity in their respective institutions on OA.
