Creative Commons (CC) licenses are a series of copyright licenses designed as alternatives to standard copyright licenses. CC licenses allow authors to retain copyright of their work while setting conditions for reuse of the work. In open access publishing, authors frequently pay an article processing charge to publish under a CC license. The CC license applied to the work dictates how content can be reused, and the selection of an inappropriate license can result in long-term administrative and financial burdens.
This ISMPP U webinar will give participants an overview of CC licenses in the context of industry-funded research publications. We will explore the factors to consider when selecting a CC license and the implications of selecting each type of CC license. We will also discuss case studies that show the consequences of CC license selection on content reuse.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session attendees will:
Understand how CC licenses are used in the context of scientific research publications
Understand how CC license selection affects content reuse for industry-funded research articles
Be better equipped to select an appropriate CC license when submitting research for publication
