Demystifying Open Access Publishing

  • Virtual ON Canada (map)

At Lakehead University Library, we are promoting and celebrating the 2024 International Open Access (OA) week in a number of ways.

First, our Scholarly Communications & Data Services Librarian, Dr. Philips Ayeni is offering two workshops, both online and in person, which are currently open for registration. The workshops titled, “Demystifying Open Access Publishing,” aims to educate the academic community, and provide practical hands-on knowledge on the imperativeness of OA for improving visibility, impact and citation of research emanating from Lakehead.

In addition, the library will be promoting general awareness of OA on our social media platforms, on the public display screens on the library’s main floor, and through several university communication channels.

Lastly, during OA week, Dr. Ayeni will reach out to faculty members, inviting them to participate in OA by depositing their preprints or postprints in the Knowledge Commons (Lakehead institutional repository). He will be mediating the deposition where necessary, as well as answering any questions they may have regarding OA publishing, article processing charges, quality OA outlets, among others.
